Gordon House

Welcome to Gordon House!

One of our more ambitious projects was the complete strip-out and restoration of Gordon House, a 17-storey residential tower block in Leicester. We took on the role of Principal Contractor, meaning that we were responsible for overseeing the sub-contractors employed by the local council and making sure the work was completed safely and to a high standard, as well as carrying out some of the work ourselves.

The Solution

Like all of our projects, safety was always a key consideration. Gordon House was in a busy residential area in the city centre, with very limited space around it, and that required a traffic management plan and careful coordination of deliveries and labour.

Our site manager also made sure that our materials were stored safely and securely, with all deliveries completed so as to keep the disruption to road users as low as possible.

Inside the block itself and its 86 flats, our team carried out all joinery and replastering work. The modernising of the flats didn’t end there – we also designed and installed new bathrooms and kitchens and that also included new tiles and floors to be laid.

We even installed a new ‘plant room’ and other communal areas, which gave the residents a space where they could meet their neighbours and really build a close community within the tower block, all with new and modern facilities for them to enjoy.

The sub-contractors all worked to our high standards. The team installed a brand new heating system, which also included ventilation and ensured a constant water supply to the flats.

All electrical works, including a full rewire, fire alarms, and new lighting in the communal rooms were completed in accordance to latest safety guidelines, and these also made a strong finishing touch in some areas.

Because of the age and condition of the building, everyone on the site had to be mindful of asbestos, which was carefully removed by trained professionals and was also subject to a further safety check before the work was finished.

To ensure full accessibility for the residents and their families, new lifts were installed and new fire prevention methods put in place.

Seeing the finished renovation of such an ambitious and complicated project was incredibly rewarding for us here at Oliveti and was the result of careful coordination and communication between everyone involved at Gordon House. We’re delighted to have been part of giving the residents a brand new, comfortable place to live.
